On Thursday, February 1, 2018, two gendarmes were murdered. The victims were at a gendarmerie checkpoint in Mbingo, a town about 35 kilometers from Bamenda, capital of the North West Region.
"This morning around 9am, we were informed of what terrorists have at the Mbingo station, shot dead two gendarmes. And on this occasion, they ripped a vehicle, to progress to Fundong. We have taken all the measures to put forces on alert so that both are tracked down. And feeling that the police forces were chasing after them, they abandoned the vehicle pulled up a kilometer from Mbingo, "Fidèle Tegni, the prefect of the Boyo department, said in an interview broadcast Thursday night at the newspaper CRTV radio.
On the prevailing climate in Mbingo, the prefect said that "the situation is under control, we had to make arrangements to reassure children at the school level because there were some who were starting to leave the institutions. It is a question of continuing to consolidate public opinion so that panic can not be appropriate. We place particular emphasis on the defense policy that the Head of State has always advocated, and we have informed, sensitized and mobilized our populations in favor of collaboration to be able to hunt down the enemy of peace ".
