Anglophone Crisis: Swiss President announced in Yaounde

This is information from the bi-monthly La Lettre du Continent. In its issue published on February 27, 2019, the pan-African magazine informs that "the Swiss President, Ueli Maurer, must make a visit to Yaounde during March (2019 Ed)." The newspaper understands that "the Swiss confederation is particularly interested in the situation" of Cameroon "undermined for several months by the secessionist tendencies of the two English-speaking regions".

The Letter from the Continent does not say, however, whether a hearing is planned with President Paul Biya or not. One thing is certain, our country is asking Switzerland to find solutions to the Anglophone crisis. In January 2018, Nicoletta Mariolini, the Swiss Federal Delegate for Plurilingualism, made a well-publicized visit to Cameroon.

During her exchanges with the authorities of our country, including the leaders of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (CNPB), she explored the possible areas of cooperation to meet the challenge of strengthening cohesion. and the promotion of living together between the different cultural and linguistic communities of Cameroon.

The host of Cameroon said that the problem, "It is a question of acceptance of diversity. The question of the diversity of cultures is about integration;  because linguistic and cultural diversity is constitutive of Cameroon; this raises the question of nationality differently. It is a call to create, it invites to think the future of his country, rather than cling to his past.

"Switzerland is also a country that knows how to carry out concrete and useful actions, with modesty but with determination, which achieves it by its impartiality, by work and by dialogue. A country that brings water to those who are thirsty, whatever their side, "said Nicoletta Mariolini.
