Southwest: NCO naval officer kidnapped

Marine NCO Yannick Djoma Vounia, of the 11th Marine Rifle Battalion (Bafumar) based in Campo (Southern Region), was kidnapped on August 31 in Ekona, in the coastal region of Southwest Cameroon.

The kidnappers of the soldier, alleged separatist fighters of the ambazonia, demand a ransom of 5 million CFA francs and two rifles for his release. The military command did not communicate on this kidnapping.

Kidnappings of soldiers in the northwestern and southwestern regions, with ransom demand, became legions.

In the Anglophone crisis that has degenerated into a conflict between the central government and the secessionists of the north-west and south-west regions of Cameroon, kidnappings of the military are increasing.
