Appointment of Prefects: Paul Biya has 'horror' of Cameroonian women

Paul Biya opted for the status quo among women Prefects and a slight increase in women sub-prefects this October 07.

They are two women prefects in Cameroon, as was the case in recent appointments. They are Rachel Akono Ngazang and Antoinette Zongo Nyambone, respectively Prefect of Kadey and Mefou-and-Akono. These women were previously prefect of the department of Mvila and Nkoung-chi.

With regard to the sub-prefects, there are seven women out of twenty-five appointed. They are:

-Liliane Flore Atangana Tchuente: sub-prefect of the district of Monatelé

-Renée Grace Essono Messe: sub-prefect of the district of Kiiki

-Sylvie Chantal Lombo: Sub-Prefect of the district of Nkon -Yambetta

-Julie Arlette Ewodo: Sub-Prefect of the district of Makenene

-Colle Featum Lolo Keja: Sub-Prefect of the district of Lobo

-Adeline Claude Sop Mote: Sub-Prefect of the district of Awae

-Germaine Wandja Tchakounté: Sub-Prefect of the district of the district of Mfou.

Out of 360 sub-prefects, the number of women rose from 10 to 15. A workforce still well below the quota of 30% of women's representation at all levels of decision-making, as claimed by women's rights organizations.
