Anglophone Crisis: A Curfew in Mezam, Northwest Region

Considering that the security situation has deteriorated considerably in certain cities of the North-West and South-West regions, the Prefect of Mezam in the North-West region, has taken an act instituting a curfew in his department. .

This decision of the Prefect of Mezam, Songa Pierre René, restricts the movement of motorcycles from 21 hours to 5 am in his department. The boss of the Mezam also prohibits the use of firecrackers in the city of Bamenda and its surroundings.

"All the owners of liquor stores are invited to close their places of business at the times indicated and anyone who wants to go beyond this time, must obtain special permission from the sub-prefect of his locality, " said the Prefect of the Mezam.

This curfew, which does not have a definite period, comes after those of October and November 2017, proving that there is the fear of a new escalation in the North-West.

Since October 11, 2016, the Northwest and Southwest, are in turmoil. It all began with a lawyers' strike calling for full application in their areas of common law. Then, on November 21st, 2016, the teachers followed the movement. This crisis, which began with a movement of corporatist humor, is now an armed insurrection.
