Monthe Louis, former player of the National Polytechnic Club of Bamenda and Chi Collins of Rainbow Football Club drowned in the day yesterday trying to escape a hostage situation in the locality of Widikum located in the department of Momo , North West Cameroon region.
According to reports from local sources, they were returning from Mamfe when ambushed by armed groups. There were four of them in the targeted bus. Two others escaped during the incident.
According to these sources, armed groups allegedly pursued them because they took part in an inter-neighborhood football match to encourage the return to school in Mamfé, in the south-west region of Cameroon, and attacked on their way back to Bamenda.
