Soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) have this Wednesday destroyed at least fifty barricades erected by armed separatists to control movement of cars and persons, in and out of Boyo Division, North West region.
Sources say the incident occurred on the heels of a back-to-school campaign , led by North West governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique to the division, after his convoy was out smarted last month by armed separatists, which prevented the governor and his collaborators to visit the division.
Accompanied by soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, they are said to have cleared off the barricades which also served as control points for separatists.
Boyo is one of the divisions, widely affected by the ongoing unrest, as several persons have fled their communities for other towns, and schools have been abandoned.
Locals say non state forces had issued a ban on movement in and out of the division. In his regional tour to encourage an effective start of the 2019/2020 academic year which begins on September 2, the governor intends to reach out to communities and reiterate on the necessity to have their children back in schools.
