National dialogue: the delegation of the Southwest angry as their proposal was rejected

A significant fraction of the members of the South West delegation participating in the ongoing national dialogue at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé are angry after the mutilation of their proposals for the event.

Some delegates, mostly traditional leaders, say their proposal for a federation of 10 states has been completely rejected. They say they are fading away with decentralization and now believe that only a federal system of government will appease their people.

The spokesman of the Fako Chiefs Conference, Chief. Andrew Ekoka Molindo and the President of the Conference of Chiefs of Limbe, Chief Henry Fonderson, say that at no time should their proposals be changed.

The members of the Fako Traditional Leaders' Conference had stated in the national dialogue that they had contacted the Ambazoni fighters. They said they were willing to talk to the government. Chiefs said that such a discussion could be done over the phone.

General Amnesty

On the basis of their consultations, the leaders proposed that Cameroon remain one and indivisible. But with 10 autonomous states or more. Other points contained in the letter of the traditional leaders of the Fako Department are the following: -

A general amnesty for all those affected by this crisis. The reorganization of the CDC and PAMOL to create jobs for young people. The construction of the deep water port of Limbe. The participation of traditional chiefs in the governance of local governments.

In order to strengthen national unity, national integration and multiculturalism, a national youth service program should be created. It will absorb young people leaving school in public and private educational institutions across the country. It will also provide young people with the financial base and work experience they need to start their lives.

Traditional leaders propose a regional balance and the protection of the rights of minorities. Especially in employment, appointment and recruitment. For them, a constitutional amendment is needed with regard to the presidential term and the rotating presidency.
