Cameroon - Unidentified individuals set fire to one of St Rita College buildings

This school is a structure of the Roman Catholic Church

It is under the helpless gaze of the educational community of St Rita College and its residents that one of its buildings has been reduced to ashes. Unidentified individuals set fire to the building on the night of January 23, 2018. The infrastructure housed the girls' dormitory at this school in the North West Region. Parents of students met by the daily Le Jour reveal in its edition of January 24, 2018, that individuals had already tried to burn the administrative block of this school on the night of Sunday to Monday. Note that St Rita College is a structure of the Roman Catholic Church.

A few days before the fire at St Rita College, the fire burned down the administrative block of Balikumbat High School in Ngoketunja. In addition to these two schools, another establishment has also experienced the throes of fire in recent days. In this Region, the origins of the aforementioned fires are related to the Anglophone crisis in North-West Cameroon and the South-West. Radicalized individuals have found the means of pressure to compel the populations besides to respect the operations of ghost town, but also to no more to educate their children and to adhere to the ideologies which they advocate like that of the secession of the Cameroon. Note that since October 2016, no less than twenty schools have been burned.

The authorities in the Region are trying hard to reassure parents and their children. However, Anglophones radicalized by different modes of operation, always manage to thwart the vigilance of school officials.
