After the creation of the Union of the Populations of Cameroon in 1948, this party arouses a strong adhesion of all the Cameroonians who want the end of the colonization. Synonym of: brutality, ensaivagement, rapes and others.
Its secretary general, RUBEN UM NYOBE is Bassa'a. But he has around him Bamou, Bamileke, nationals of the Far North, Beti and others. He seduces beyond the Bamileke people. Faced with the rise of the UPC, the administration created false parties that fail to break through the rise of the UPC.
In 1955, a whole set of marches are organized in Cameroon by the UPC. They are all forbidden and repressed by the Colonial administration. On May 22, 1955, the French army fired live ammunition on protesters with their bare hands. Instead of apologizing, June 13, 1956 is rather the UPC is prohibited. Some of his leaders arrested. And this is how Um Nyobe went into hiding and started the war in the Bassa country.
Because the UPC was far from being in fact a tribal but nationalist party, the other communities joined the struggle and mainly the Bamileke is how the war also begins in Bamileke country that will know in 1970.
Today Cameroonians boast that independence has not been granted. That they took up arms. And are proud of it. But my God. Why do not you say that the UPC was called the Bassa party when all the ethnic groups were in this fight? Because you know that the UPC was not tribal but was fighting for the good of Cameroonians who suffered from French colonization.
Today in Cameroon we have the Biya regime supported by France. Maurice KAMTO was the best candidate. Better profile. Best program. During the presidential elections, all kinds of parties were mounted against him. For two years you have been told that the MRC is a party of Bamileke while it is the party that has the most diversity all parties in Cameroon.
On January 26, 2019, as on May 20, 1955, Paul Biya's army fired on protesters with their bare hands. Even stop passersby.Throws them in jail and some come to say that Paul Biya, bloody dictator in power for 36 years is right. Because KAMTO has violated the laws (they speak of a great lawyer) and that it is the Bamileke who disturb. My God.
If in 1955, Um Nyobe had not had the courage to brave the prohibitions of demonstrations. If the other ethnic groups had not supported the Bassa in the face of the repression that was coming down on them, we would never be independent.
I simply have tears in my eyes at this threshold of ignorance.
That is why against the regime Biya, a regime supported by France, a colonial regime must support Maurice KAMTO and Bamileke Because it is a national liberation struggle. Against 36 years of misfortune. This is not tribalism but resistance to a regime of thugs. Scissors (hired killers).
